So I picked up an extra 12V power outlet today. I ask from you guys, who have experience, what would be the best place for it? Under the hood, under the rear bumper, or under my seat as a cell phone charging jack so I can close my ash tray?
Any other ideas? I know this is kinda random.
Oh, and it has two wires, a white and a light grey. Neither obviously goes to any certain point on the power socket itself (both dissappear into one big heat shrink thing) and no directions were provided with it. What's a good way to see which wire is which?
Where to put it depends on what you want to use it for. I have three in the dash, and have yet to use them all at once.
I know someone who ran one to the bed of his truck (with a cap) to power an electric cooler on long trips.
Seeing as you're talking about getting a center console, maybe run it into there when you get one; my mother's car has a plug there and she likes that she can plug her phone in and then leave it to charge out of sight...
Ahh...that is a mighty fine idea. Didn't think about that center console! Well I guess I can just leave it on the back burner until then, it can ride around in my current console lol.
Thanks for the suggestion! I guess if I ever need another I can just buy and install it.
Zach, is this a cigarette lighter type of power outlet? If it is, use an ohm meter and check to see which wire is connected to the center contact, that
will be connected to +12V, the other wire will be grounded.
