Question.........

Can a person like myself that lives in Tennessee, Have a Tennesse license & own a vehicle licensed, registered, inspected, & insured in Louisianna?

Yes I'm licensed in TN. I live in TN. I have vehicles licensed in TN. But I am considering purchasing another vehicle to keep at my employers offices in Natchez, MS (On the border of LA).
I'm not going to be able to transport the vehicle to Tennessee every year just to have it emmision tested for the tag, but I am able to have it tested in Louisianna. I also have a address in Louisianna. This vehicle will be kept in Louisianna & Mississippi area & only driven when my Big Truck is in Natchez.
No, I will not switch my driver's license to another state.

Not sure but what you describe is called a part time residence, contact the DMV in Lousiania. I think you can.

Just beware of what is called the three states law. In brief, you can have a license in one state, a registration in another, but your insurance has to be from one of the two - not a third one.

Different combinations are possible, of course. License and reg here, insurance from over there, and so on.

Or at least - that was true the last time I heard about it. Just another odd bit of info from a life spent re-establishing residence all over the USA once every three or four years.

I assume you haven't checked with the MS state MVB laws yet ?

I know a person without a driver's license can own a vehicle in some places.

It is an annoying nuisance that determines when your vehicle is too expensive, or too much hassle to register based on equipment that is inefficient in the first place and reduces your miles per gallon.

The whole thing began in California decades ago...

I note that two stroke motorcycles and diesels are exempt so far...
FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELTS!

All of this came about because of severe air quality issues, and there is some relevence to it, I agree. I have lived in SMOG before, and it is nasty.

But when is enough too much?

In Washingtongue, If you are a resident and have a vehicle registered in another state like Orgunn, the powers that be will confiscate all of your personal property and make you go through a sex change operation... Though I may be wrong about that.

I believe you can as long as you tag it in that state and get your yearly inspection in that state (does LA do a yearly state inspection?) as long as you have an address in the state you are registering it in. I used to live in OK and my truck was bought and registered there, I had a KS lisence and as I moved around ( KS, MO, TN,) I just got it insured it in the states that I lived in at the time and had the tag info sent to my parents home in OK. Never had a problem.
