I have a question about the law that requires liability insurance, If you have an accident with another driver (their fault) and they dont have insurance, arent they suppose to be arrested for breaking the law by not having insurance?
Yes in fact if a person doesn't have a driver's license..they can include no insurance as well.....because their name would have to be on the policy as a driver but if they didn't have a license ..they couldn't be listed ...or if they are..it would be invalid because they couldn't produce a Driver's license ..so the person would be personally liable for any damages.
It is for this reason (and others) that there are Un-insured & Under-insured motorist protection plans in place.
In Alberta the fine is $2500.00 for No DL
and $2500.00 for No Insurance
The vehicle gets confiscated for 30 days at $8.00 a day.
The tow bill with dollies is about $175.00
The Driver is not allowed to get a license for about 2 years.

It gets quite expensive.
Didn't the fine for no registration just recently go up there in the past year also?
I recently moved from Alberta a year ago I if memory serves me correctly wasn't it like 250 bucks?
I bet you dont have the problem with the illegals driving around with no anything like we do here in North Carolina,,,,We can learn alot from our friends up north,,,,,,,too bad we havent
early last year i was involved in a wreak with a driver that had no insurance, he was at fault. at the time of the wreak he presented a insurance card to the officer, after i delt with his insurance company they said they hadnt received payments from him in over 6 months, and said they couldnt do nothing for me.
instead of pursuing him myself i had my insurance company pay for the truck and let them hunt him down. i had to show up in court, he plead guilty, was fined 550 bucks for no insurance, fined 500 and someodd bucks for presenting false info to the cop. they slaped him with the 3900 bucks of repairs to my truck, and 250 bucks to repay me for my insurance copay. he had to pay all court cost and lost his lisence for 2 years.
i have full covrage on my truck so i went through my insurance to fix it, im not sure how it works if you only have liabillity. for me the jackass lives at the other end of my street, if i some how got screwed over i was gonna go down their and take 4000 bucks worth of damage out of his face.
good luck man, to many people who play by the rules get screwed over.
A kid with no insureance ran an intersection into a farm field and went right through a sign we had for our business. took me a few weeks to track down an accident report and I've never seen under thec ins column "NONE" i was like WTF... called the kid, whoes mom then got on the phone and started screaming at me in spanish/spanglish about how I should feel sorry for them since thier car was totaled....
Our signs cost us 800 bucks.... Oddly enough, the family owned a great mexican resturaunt, that pretty much everyone in our company had been regulars at up untill the grandpa (owner) died a few months earlier.....
As I was coming up with some way to ruyn up an 800 dollar tab, and then walk out, I read in the paper that the place had shut down. Seems they forgot to pay some taxes, AND someone had drove a car into the building w no insureance....Talk about karma.....

Please have him arrested,,,,Teach him what LAW means,,,,,,,,,,,,,Please have him arrested and thrown in jail speaking to you in spanish should be a crime in itself,,Do you live in spain?
A few years ago a guy hit my son's car and left the scene, but his friend followed him to his house about a block away. No insurance. Cops came, but only got ticket, no time spent and we didn't get a dime since the guy didn't have any money himself. Last fall a woman hit the car behind me and pushed her into me. Said she had insurance but the insurance company said she didn't anymore. Again we never saw a dime because she moved out of state. Luckily this time it only cost me $30. for bumper brackets. Wish it was mandatory that insurance companies notified that insurance was dropped and the cops would impound the car. Many get insurance for the registration and tag and then drop it.
Louisiana has mandatory ins laws. The ins companies there have to notify the state if you drop your ins. The state sends state troopers to your house to get your tags in about 2 wks if you drop your ins. I think all states need this type of laws.
I live in Tenn now. Around Christmas a drunk illegal immigrant driver killed a friend of mine. He hit a big trash container like the ones used on construction sites hard enough to knock it into my friend & kill him. The container was half full & he moved it 10 ft with a nissan maxima. His speed on a residential street was estimated at over 100mph. He had no ins & was'nt hurt in the wreck.

MS has a compulsory liability insurance law and it's enforced if a person gets caught. You can go through a roadblock and they won't ask for proof of insurance unless you are breaking some other law.
I went with my g/f to pick up her 92 Nissan Sentra one night from her son and on the way back, we both went through a roadblock by city cops. I expected for them to ask for proof of insurance, considering the age and look of the car, but they didn't. It has insurance so that was no problem. Now my g/f was asked for proof of insurance on her 2003 Xterra....she was right behind me. I think they asked her because she had failed to put on her seatbelt.
You don't have to show proof of insurance here to register a vehicle. Now if you fail to pay your garbage pick-up bill, they can deny you your registration until it's paid.
Last year my wife was hit by a young girl, illegal immigrant, with no license, no insurance, no current registration. Cops wrote up three tickets, had car towed. Girl called someone to come and get her. Cop told my wife that they probably won't see her in court.
When asked why she wasn't arrested he stated that he didn't have the authority to arrest for being an illegal immigrant.
We got stuck with the $ 800.00 repair bill. Didn't make sense to turn it in on our insurance. This is the main reason Texas has some of the highest auto insurance rates in the country.
3 years ago, my nephew was broadsided in the drivers side door by a drunk, "undocumented alien", with no insurance, no license, false registration, stolen plates, on a stolen car.when the police arrived, 9 witnesses stated that the girl was driving. she had 2 broken ribs from the steering wheel, and wrist and facial burns from the airbag. did she get arrested?? no. because both she and her male passenger told the cops he was driving. he gave the cops a false id, and was ticketed. of course, he never showed up for court, and a warrant was signed out for him. when the warrant was served, the cops found a 92 year old man. the driver had stole his id, and modified it to fit.
luckily my nephew walked away with cuts and bruises, and a totaled car which i had to replace.
The problem is that most local police departments cannot arrest people for being in this country illegally. This is the jurisdiction of the federal government and the INS. When Chandler tried to clean up an area that is known for "undocumented daily labor" they were brought into court for being racists and the federal government stated they have no right to these types of sweeps. The most ironic part of this story was that this is within a block of the police department.
This is also, why in AZ it is required to have under/no insurance on your policy. This adds $300 per year to my bill.
