My son and I are restoring a 1971 F100 4WD. This truck is a total resurrection. We are almost complete with the front end except the upper coil spring saddle/mount. Ours are destroyed and must be replaced. Does anyone know what other years are the same and will 2WD work? Or does anyone have these pieces? I have checked the local Junkyards with no luck. Are there any companies that reproduce these items? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.
I know for sure that all '67's to '72's are the same and I think up to '79 (someone else confirm this please). Unfortunately can't answer your other questions because I'm not familiar with 4wd's idiosyncrasies.
I can't believe that no salvage yards have anything for you. If the part you need is the formed piece that bolts to the frame and the coil pushes up on, I have a couple parts trucks I could take apart even further. Where are you located?
Dave,
79 F-150 4x4, 390 w/C6, Edelbrock carb, 33X12.50 never will be finished.
These coil towers are different between the 4X4 and two wheel drive. The ones on my 4X4 are about 4" taller than on my two wd. Do some measuring beforehand. Also I noticed that where it mounts to the frame on the 4X4 it uses bolts. The two wd is mounted using rivets. I don't know if the ones on the 4x4 have been changed in the past.
LAST EDITED ON 08-Mar-01 AT 11:29 PM (EST)[p]Thanks Dave for the reply.Yes the 2 formed pieces on top of the coil springs is exactly what I need. Unfortunately the local salvage yards here do not keep older stuff, just late model. I have done a little further research since I posted and found that the only ones that will work are from a 67-72 f100 4wd. These are unique in the way they are very narrow compared to the 2wd and are taller and yes they do mount with bolts rather than rivets. I am located in Northeast TN in a small town called Erwin. If you have a pair of these I would gratefully be willing to purchase from you.I hate to slow this project down at this point. Please reply with a price and thanks in advance for your help.
BigJohn, remember, when you install your new coil mounts if you are looking for a little lift in the front, now is the time to do it.These spring perches can be match drilled 1 3/4"higher to gain that amount of lift, dont go any more or you will run into the track bar mount. Also 79 Bronco coils with v-8 engine will net another 1"lift and stiffer ride.I made these changes on my 71 F100 4x4, it leveled out the truck and it handles better not to mention more body clearance for bigger tires!
I don't have extra mounts but will keep an eye out in this part of the country. Do you know if an F250 4x4 mounts are the same? Also are your mounts repairable? My cab mount perches were rusted out and I repaired them by sandblasting the rust and welded in fill material and grinding out the excess. They came out really good. I think that they are stronger than the original because of the extra fill material I left in.
I don't think 250 mounts are the same. I wish these mounts were repairable. The problem is someone has already botched up and patched up with terrible welds and pieces. They done more damage than good. Thanks for the reply. I am off to another county tomorrow to look in some junkyards I know have these trucks. The lucky part is it bolts on, no rivets.
go to www.lmctruck.com and get a catalogue, also, try www.macsautosupply.com they have everything u can possibly imagine onyour truck plus some

Thanks for the reply. My son has already ordered and received new coils from JC Whitney that are supposed to give us 2-2 1/2" lift. I understand what your saying and its a good idea. If we are not satisfied, I will try. I am already running into track bar problems. We installed new prothane strut and C bushings along with prothane track bar bushings. I noticed the front housing and wheels seem to be pulled to the drivers side a couple of inches with the track bar connected. It appears the frame mount for the track bar needs to be lowered to make things come out right. I looked at a friend of mines-1970 Ranger and noticed the frame mount for the track bar is on the inside of the frame. Ours is on the outside? I tried locating ours on the inside and the track bar will not come close. Is yours on the inside or outside the frame?
Bigjohn, my track bar mounts on the outside like yours also. There is a company that makes a track bar drop acessory that will return the front end track to a stock position,I read about it in Petersons 4wd magazine but dont have the mag anymore. You could E-mail them and mabey get an answer they seem to be a decent mag.Good luck!
Thanks for all the help. I made a trip to the out of town junkyard today, wallowed around in the mud, and found the towers I need (perfect condition) on a 1973 1/2 ton 4WD. $20.00 for both ( I remove of course). I noticed while there, they were the same on a 1975 model. These parts turned out to be not so unique after all. Thanks for all the replies.
bigjohn, I went out and looked at my 71 4wd and my track bar is on the outside of the frame. There is a bracket bolted to the factory bracket that lowers my track bar 3 inches, it went on with my lift kit. DF
