Is anyone else having trouble getting the dealers to believe that this is now an option? A couple I've been to so far look at you like you have 2 heads. I realize there is probably very little supply of these trucks out there yet. I figured I'd have to order one anyway but I'd at least like to think that the sales guys would at least be aware of this change.
Im in Florida and I was just at the dealership a few days ago and they have a few in stock and my sales guy knew about the extended bed option for the new SuperCrew. Must just be the area?
I have found here in Phoenix there are very few if any on the lots. Most being built are still filling customer orders. Not many for dealer stock yet. The one or two I did see were either fully optioned to the hilt or stripped, no in betweens.
Not all dealers know their vehicles like they should. When I was buying my '04 Expy, I was talking to a truck salesman about the ALL NEW Tow Command for the SD's. He looked at me and had me show him what I was talking about. When I showed him the controller, he said that he was wondering what in the world that thing was, and he sold them for a living. I work for a telephone company and there is no way I could get away with not knowing all the new technologies available to my customers.

This is where you whip out that fancy '06 F150 sales slick that they gave you, and flip it open to the options and capacities page.
BTW, Welcome to FTE!
Sure hope you end up with a F150 and stick around!

I just got my 2006 6.5 SCrew. It is awesome! and boy is it big.
i put a access roll-up cover on today will try to post pics this week.
My brother works in a ford dearlership in Pa. and says that dealerships were suposed to order the new 6.5 bed Screw in Dec but many forgot to. he had to get it from another dealership
I bought one on 02-11-06, the dealer had 3 more but they're selling quick. I saw a flareside supercrew (yes, flareside) on ebay the other day too. I've only seen one other one on the road so far.

The bigger bed is the way to go. I have the 5.5 bed and it is just to small for many things. Ford should make this standard and have the 5.5 optional with a negitive price tag.
I have the 5.5 bed in my 06 F150 Screw and it fits nicely in my garage and has enough space for the things I carry. The only thing I see that could be bad about the 6.6 is trying to park in tight parking garages especially if you work in the city. Other than that I would think the ride would be a little better. Just my opinion.

This is also the point where a salesperson with even a bit of awareness will realize that they don't have a hope of actually selling you anything. Sometimes what it does do is attract another salesperson who knows their product and get things going again.
I went into a dealership a while ago to ask if they had any HD package F150's on the lot. The first young guy I talked to didn't have a clue, but quickly grabbed a brochure and his card. While I was pointing out what I was talking about in the brochure a couple of the longer term sales guys got into the act and were able to tell me that even though the HD packages are listed they are very hard to get in Canada. I have to believe that as you don't see a lot of them here.
Alberta is truck country and frequently "big" truck country. That dealership already had a number of the 6.5 foot box Screws on order.
I'll tell you one thing. I was not considering the F-150 Super Crew because of the 5.5' bed. I needed 4 doors but wanted a longer bed. So, all I was considering was the Super Duty. Well, last weekend I go to the local dealer and parked right next to each other are the F-150 Super Crew 6.5' bed and the F-250 Crew Cab 6.75' bed. MSRP was within $1k of each other - $42k or something outrageous.
I think I'm going F-150 Super Crew 6.5 now because it is what I really need and nothing more. Had Ford not just introduced this option, they might have lost a sale. Now, they have one.
It is a great option, might be the best one offered in the F-150 if you need it.
Would have been nice to have the 6.5 option when I bought my 05 Screw. Actually I find that the 5.5 is good for most everything, till I went a put a Pace Edwards JackRabbit top on it -- excellent for most things, but I neglected to consider the size of the canister (maybe 8 inches), and more importantly, really neglected to consider the last 3" of the top that does NOT retract into the canister,so now I am dealing with a 4.5' box if you are talking about hauling an ATV or anything. Now I need a trailer for the ATV.
