I have a 2004 Escape XLT. I'm having problems starting after stopping at a stop light or first thing in the morning. The truck hesitates when pressing the gas. The real big problem is that Ford service can not find anything wrong. They have had the car overnight on two occations and all I hear are excuses. Does anybody have any ideas?
Is the gas pedal smooth when pressing after a stop? How many miles?
Regardless, the platinum plugs should be fine assuming you don't have around 100k miles. My wild guess would be a vacuum leak or the IAC but those usually throw a code. I ask the mileage too due to tcesni reminding me of something. My V6 Escape didn't have any issues during break-in but my I4 Escape seemed to want to hesitate for the first few thousand miles from a take-off. That was many miles ago and I assume your 2004 is beyond break-in.
I'm not sure how many miles are on the vehicle. Its still at Ford service after all this time. They finally gave us a rental. I'm not at home so they are really giving my wife the run-around. I'm going to call today to see what's up.
The decision that Ford came up with is very unsatisfactory to me. They said that they know there is a problem, but the higher ups won't let them open up the transmission. So they want us to keep driving it until it gets worst and if the warranty runs out we would have to pay to get it fixed. I want to tske this higher but where do I go?

The warranty guide in your owners manual package explains the procedure.
I had problems with my 06 escape transmission especially when cold and they refused to even open the transmission up to see what was wrong. So i contacted the better business bureau auto line. They took all the information from me...got fords side of the problem...ford refused to do anything more that they had already done so I could have taken it to arbitration or accept fords remedy witch was an extended warranty on the power train at witch point I felt was insufficient so i countered back with the premium extended warranty which they agreed to. The vehicle is covered for 6 years or 75,000 miles. The vehicle was purchased in aug of 2005 and only has 4,200 miles so it will be covered for a while.....Good luck. Hope this info helps
Nobody brought up the fuel filter, has it been replaced? I'm having a hesitation on one of my other cars and the o2 sensor is causing that, but no check engine light is showing. Also you can get the codes checked for free at autozone. Just because the cel isn't showing doesn't mean there isn't one.
Before you condemn the transmission here, how about trying to describe the symptoms more clearly...
I once worked on an escape.. similar problems... didn't want to idle... hard to get rolling.. engine cutting out, like it's out of gas...
Ended up being a dead fly stuck the the MAF elements...
Remove your air cleaner and look down it with a flashlight... you should see a small opening with a couple small wire "elements" inside.. look for debris of droplets of oil or dirt etc stuck to one. Try a light spray of injector cleaner and see if that helps.
