Fuel Pressure @ Rail

I have 40 psi @ the rail with the key on - engine off - fuel pump on, and about 33 psi with the engine running @ 1100 rpm w/ transmission in neutral.

Do these readings indicate that the fuel delivery system is good?

Yes those are good readings.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, it's just basically the same question, and the original has been answered, so why not: How long should that 40PSI be there with the engine off? Mine only lasts a second or so, then drains out? Bad fuel regulator or something?

In answer to the original question as well, those readings are about the same as mine, except for the whole few seconds thing....

Well in an ideal world it would hold forever as it has no place to go. The fuel pumps have check valves to hold it, the Fuel Pressure Regulator has spring holding it and the injectors do not leak (do they?).

May want to check it ever once in a while but if it is starting and running OK and holding for a second or so it is properly OK.

I think you have properly hijacked the thread but we will see.

I never actually measured how long it held 40 psi after turning off the engine, but it held for at least 5 minutes...

So, correct me if I am wrong, but these readings (33 psi while running and 40 w/ engine off) verify that the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator and everything else associated with these parts (electrical and mechanical) are in proper working order.

Yes they are, sounds like you have a very good fuel system.

As fas as the seconds or minutes of fuel rail pressure after shutting off the engine, I did mine few months ago when checking pump and changing Press.Reg. My pressure stayed up for about 3-5 min, until dropping.

I wonder if my injectors are leaking. After the truck has been running, it starts hard...Starts in a second when cold.
How does one test the injectors?

Sounds like they are leaking.
As far as testing them on the engine, I have not ever tried but if you have Regulated Air you could try putting about 25 psi at the fuel test point and lessen at the TB and see if you hear anything. Make sure you loosen the gas caps before you try this and let us know if it works. If you hear air leaking then I would think you would have a leaking injector.

If anybody else has any ideas on testing injectors let us know.
