On my '78 Exployer shortbed pickup F-100 with power steering I'm having a problem which is begining to annoy me. I've replaced the steering box and that improved it somewhat, then the rag, that helped, can't find any loose or worn parts in the front. I'm still having a problem with what I call over steering. You turn the wheel just enough to go to the other lane but there is a one second delay before she responds. When I first bought the truck she was all over the road and now I'm down to this. by the way I had to drop the steering colume to replace the rag. Is there a faster way? What would that be? ALSO... is it just me or what? Seems like the '73 to '79 Ford pick-ups are more popular and cost more in top shape then the '67 to '72... What's everybodys opinion on this topic??.....
Bob, does your '78 have a tilt column? Mine does, and the u-joint for the tilt is shot. I'm planning on replacing the column with one in better shape, or just using a non-tilt column. Tearing the column apart to get to the joint looks like a lot of work.

I didn't take the coloum apart, I just let it drop down so things wouldn't be so tight making it easier to get the rag off. How would you do it? No I do not have a tilt.
