First, a little background..... I have an aftermarket electric-lock kit on my '04 F150 XL. The kit is pretty slick in that it allows me to lock both doors by pushing the lock down on my side or unlock all doors by lifting any door lock. it also has a remote control that looks similar to the Ford Factory remote. Anyway, I guess one of the security features (For what I don't know) is that when you disconnect the battery and reconnect it, the actuators lock the doors. (I found this out the hard way when I was wiring my power seats).
Since I bought the truck, I have taken it in for miscellaneous service at the dealership no less than 3 times (pinging, We OWES etc...). Each time I take it in I guess they accidentally lock the keys in the truck because there is always an "extra" brand new chipped key on my key ring when I pick it up. I have collected several of them now. they just keep locking themselves out and making new keys. I think I have 5 total now.

And we at the dealer are the bad guys? Who is screwing who? Come on tell them what's going on. I'm not saying there are no bad dealers, but then how about the customers also.

I'm with the earlier poster - I don't feel bad for the dealer having to eat a few keys. The dealer where I bought my '05 Escape Hybrid told me a new key was $50 - $25 for the key itself and $25 for the programming. I politely declined but before I picked it up I found out the '05 Hybrids don't have the PATS so the key has no chip in it - a $2 hardward store copy works fine. After I raised a big enough ruckus, they threw in a free key. Mighty big of them, huh?
I wonder how many people they screwed like that.
I agree, the original poster should leave them a note about the funky lock system....
No offense to any dealers out there, but screw the dealer. From my experiences they will get the money one way or another. If it isn't from the price of the key it will be from an extra fee added on for shop fees or something like that.
If it were me, I wouldn't say a thing to the dealership unless they say ask about it. I've run into too many crooked dealerships to feel bad about the dealership eating the pennies that the key cost them.

Are you serious? I'm responsible for the mechanic locking the keys in the truck they sold me? Bwaaaa Haaaaa Haaaaaaa Haaaaaaaa Haaaaaaa.
That's a good one. The last time I took it in, the mechanic rode with me, heard it pinging, kept it a week then gave it back to me with "Could not duplicate symptom". Before that, they put the wrong type weights on my alloy wheels. I pulled them off with my bare fingers with no effort. The time before that they called me to perform the "We Owes", scheduled the appointment then sold the parts they ordered for me while I was waiting on my truck. When I finally got it back, they had taken my floor mats. Before that they ruined my transmission.
At this point I don't care if they have to make me a key or not.
Hmmmmmmm, and I wish to help you with my experience why????? If it's because of your aftermarket stuff, it's not really the techs fault is it, it's yours!!!! And by the way, they cost more than 2 cents to the dealer. But, then again just bitch when the dealer charges to recoup their costs.
