Am installing an overhauled 302 with a universal Holley 8007 carb, and an overhauled AOD transmission. Bought a Lokar KD-2AODHT control cable because the original TV cable won't work with this carb. The TV cable, throttle cable, bracket and springs are installed according to the instructions.
There is conflicting information about how to adjust the cable. Baumanengineering.com and tciauto.com have step by step instructions that are basicly the same, I plan to follow them.
Questions: Is it absolutely necessary to use a gauge tool to set it up? Is it necessary to have another bracket on the carb's throttle arm to "correct the geometry" as some say (Sonnax AS2-02K cable corrector kit is mentioned). My carb's throttle arm doesn't look exactly like the one in the instructions.
I have a hydraulic hose and 0-100 psi pressure gague hooked up to the TV port to check the pressure when the engine is cranked. I want to try and not damage the transmission while seating the piston rings in.
The radius of the throttle connection point determines the "travel" of the cable. The travel must be exact or the transmission will not function properly. The "travel volume" is how the transmission adjusts shift points and internal pressure to compensate for load just like the vacuum modulator does on the older C-6 and C-4 etc.
