The sun finally came out to play today, so I drove the wrecker around the block and let it pose for a few photos.<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/captradiator/IMG_1333.jpg" border="0" alt="Image hosting by Photobucket"></a>

Thanks for the positive comments, folks. In the background, you can see our '72 Bronco. Since the weather was so nice, I replaced the leaking fuel pump on it today and drove it around the block, too. Also, the front bumper on the '56 is the one from the old '59 school bus (See gallery).
Johnny - Great looking truck. I wish mine were as straight as yours. I've been seeing your posts on one of the tow truck sites. I've got a tow truck project "in waiting". More correctly would be "in pieces". What model Holmes is that? I've got a tow bed for a one ton chassis, but will at some point need to find a boom and mechanical PTO set up. Any source info would be appreciated.
By the way, anybody looking for a great old tow truck, there's a complete 57-60 f-350 sitting for sale at Desert Valley Auto Parts in Phoenix. I'm sure they'll be proud of it, but it's straight and rust free, and all there.

It will NOT be a museum piece/trailer queen. I want to be able to have fun driving it, cruising, put it in parades, etc. It's a long tale to tell, but it is a replication of a wrecker that I learned to drive in, along with my favorite cousin, Robby. He and I were best friends, the same age, graduated from high school together, then he went in the Marine Corps, me to the Navy. We both came home safely from Viet Nam, then Robby learned to fly helicopters. Sadly, he was killed in a crash while working for a logging outfit ten years ago, in California. So, to make along story short, this is my memorial for him. Actually, it needs be called Robby's wrecker. I would write more, but my eyes seem to be watering really badly...

Thanks, brother. Whenever I see and talk with one of this generation's veterans /service-folks, I thank them for what they have done and are doing.

Same Same
Every once in awhile at the grocery I'll run into a WWII Navy Vet that I know. He'll holler "Hey Air Force" and I'll return with a "Hey Navy". You can tell the other Vets, they are the only ones that don't look confused.
When I can I go meet the returning Reserve and Guard Troops.
