Hey guys-
thinking of buying a "perfect" 79 f250 lariat sight unseen. The fellow says it has an original leather interior. Is this possible? Also, is it really feasable to convert a 2wd to 4x4 and have everthing work toghter somewhat reliably/smoothly? I have seen far more reliablilty/drivability disasters than successes when it comes to drivetrain transplants and wanted your opinion. If i was to do this, how would i go about it most economically? I have never worked on a truck, but i would want to do this on my own as much as possible. Any feedback is great. thanks.
p. s.- i's be working with a 3sp. column shift auto and a 460.
If you have never worked on a truck this is not the project to start with. It will cost you a lot of time and money. I just read an article on a 4x2 convert to a 4x4. I'll see if I can find it for you.
Above is the address for the 1979 F150 Supercab Convert. all I did was do a search for 1979 Ford and it was the first site.
Title"Off Road - 1979 Ford F150 Supercab 4x4 Convert"
It should answer all your questions.
SHO, As Casey states, that is not a job for someone just starting. If you want a 4X4 just keep looking until you find the one for you. A 4X4 will cost more money to operate because of lower gearing.
Leather seats are part of the Lariat package.
