Hey, this is my first time posting in this forum. I might be in the market for an 04 or 05 F150. I currently have an 01.
I was wondering if someone could tell me what the differences between and STX and and XLT are. What are the different options or what comes standard on each.
Basically, you are only able to get the 4.6 in the STX. The XLT will have a chrome instead of painted bumpers and power rear view mirrors. As far as radio options and powere windows, I think the STX can be had with that. Power windows are standard in XLT's.
The STX is limited to the 4.6L engine and there are no power options at all. I have one and ended up installing the power windows and door locks myself and it wasnt too hard. STX is also manual shift 4WD. There is no Tach with it, no keyless entry (with the exception of aftermarket like I did). Its pretty much no frills at a lower cost.
If you can get a deal on it...I would go with an XLT. I couldnt pass up the employee pricing deal I got on the STX and I primarily use my truck for Light Hauling so it worked out for me...but ifI could have brought myself to take the extra 3G's out of my House fund...I would have gotten an XLT.
XLT has carpet, power windows, locks & mirrors, chrome bumpers, 5.4 engine availability, different grille, different interior trim, different trim on dash and other little things that are not available on the STX. XLT is a much nicer truck for daily use. It's a long way across the cab to unlock the passenger door.

I beg to disagree. Install power locks :-) also I think the STX looks much better than XLT. It looks pretty much identical to the FX4 with different rims. IMO
I just bought a '06 XLT and yes I would like to put the STX painted bumpers and the round fog lights on my truck. But I would still take the XLT over the STX any time. The SXT is just a painted XL.

It might look pretty much identical to the FX4 but it stops there. I've become fond of the power of the 5.4, the electic windows, locks and mirrors, and the nicer interior. I'm more interested in what I see and use when I am sitting in the truck and less in what other people see from the outside.

True but I love the interior in all the trim models. I like having the middle seat just in case...power windows and locks and mirrors i have got put in afterwards. The power does lack in 4.6 however, but a programmer could compensate that

After you add the windows, locks and mirrors and the add a programmer, aren't you approaching the cost of an XLT. Then you also have the hassle of getting the work done and the resale is still lower. Also, if you're going to tow, "there is not replacement for displacement". Low end torque is what gets towing done and the 5.4 gets as good or better fuel mileage as a 4.6.

Last time I checked, I dont think power windows, locks, mirros, and a programmer will add up to the price difference of XLT and STX. I believe the price difference is around $3,500. I got power windows, locks, mirrors; all for about $700 installed by a shop. If I installed it, it wouldve been 1/4 of that price. And also, a programmer goes for about $350-$500. So is the remaining $2,000 (estimated) worth the bigger engine for towing? That is all personal preference. I will probably never tow anything in the near future. I do have the tow package, but I don't own anything that requires towing. So the bottom line is just compare the engines....I personly dont like the chrome bumpers on the XLT nor the Honeycomb grill...You can change both of them out as well, but thats just more $$$. This is a never ending comparison.
