I read through a couple of the threads here on the board and I noticed a couple members speak about a Walker downpipe. I've tried researching it but I'm still confused is this a F-150 part or is it a retro-fitted part? Please try and explain this to me. Also, would a walker downpipe w/ EFI manifold give me a reasonable mileage and power upgrade?
The Walker pipe you refer to fits the efi manifolds.
The manifolds and pipe will help, but not too much by themselves. It is a good first step to upgrade the I-6 breathing. Next step, without going wild, would be chevy six rocker arms which will give you a little higher valve lift without changing cams. If you have a stock one barrel, that and the intake manifold would be the next logical upgrade.
aftermarket pipe that eliminates the factory cat. conv. It allows a cat. to be installed further back as a single cat. instead of two. Or go without a cat. at all. Designed to fit 80's fords, but can fit 73-79's with minor mods.
Where can you find a walker down pipe? What chevy motor has rocker arms to help with changing the lift? I've heard of people talking of this swap, but never actually doing it because of all the machining work.
I have a 96 F-150 too, and I bought my Walker Downpipe from a local custom exhaust shop. They had it the next day for me to pickup! I still have yet to even install it, I'm too unsure about what to do with the after-cat O2 sensor, backpressure, and the bizarre air tube that plugs into the exhaust pipe between the cats.
As far as I know, backpressure isn't an issue. The bizarre air tube as far as I know supplys fresh air to the 2nd cat to help burn pollution (so one could just cut it and let it put fresh air in the atmosphere:P). The 3rd O2 sensor can be nullified using a simulator.
