New Parts ???

i just installed an egr valve, egr valve position sensor, and a idle air control valve! almost 200 bux... anyways. since i put these on do i have to reset computer on the truck? if so how? i heard you had to and you had to unhook batery cable for 10 or so minutes... im clueless desperatly need help thanks guys!

Yes, it will help to pull and then clear the codes. Let the truck sit with the cable off for 10 min, reconnect and drive it for at least 10 miles so that the computer will be able to "relearn" what the parameters are.

If you want to speed up the process, disconnect the ground cable from the battery, and step on the brake pedal. This forces the memory power to be used up turning on the brake lights... so it dumps what was stored, codes and anything 'learned'. It also makes your radio forget any stations... You can keep the radio memory alive with a 9-volt into the cigar lighter, but you'll have to disconnect the ECM to get the codes drained.
If you cycle it thru several start-run-stop cycles, I don't remember how many, it will learn anew without any other action on your part.

You can get away with simply starting and turning off the engine i believe it is 10-15 times, however I have found that driving it makes sure that everything you have done is working properly and it also allows the computer to learn things that it cannot learn by simply idling in your driveway.
