Has anyone used the Duplicolor bed liner? I'm looking at the do-it-yourself kit for $44 and trying to find out if anyone has used this kit before.
I don't expect it to be as good as the $400 Rhino, but how does it hold up and what was the texture thickness like?
Thanks.
I used the Duplicolor and was not very impressed. The $99 brush on liner (cant think of the name right now, might be Duraliner?) is much better and well worth the cost.
Are you thinking of Herculiner brand? I purchased a 1 Gal. kit of it because it was on sale for $80. They had a sample of the cured product there on display, and it appeared to look/feel quite tough. I plan to try it out on my '76 Bronco first. I skimmed through the instructions and there apperars to be quite a bit of prep work involved such as scuffing down with a Scotch-Brite pad and wiping down with Xylene thinner. I also have quite a bit of rust to take care of first.
I found a picture of someone's Toyota bed that used the Duplicolor bedliner and it did look pretty thin. You could still see all the dents. Looked like just thick paint. I was wondering just how thick it is because at $44 a gal, I can get two gallons, but if the texture is pretty much like paint I'd probably pass.
Too bad the local shops want $400 for their professional liners. That just seems to be a bit more than I wanted to pay, but at the same time I don't want to waste time and money on something I don't like.
I used the Duplicover to coat the floor of my truck. It is pretty thin unless you use many coats and does not seem to be all that chip resistant. This is probably not a big deal when it is covered by a floor mat but would be a disaster in the bed.
I used the duplicolor junk on my truck, its not real great. I used 2 gallons, and its still not very thick, and chips real easy. My friend used the Herculiner, and its well worth it, i wished i hadnt been so cheap now.
Yea, Herculiner, thats it! It says it takes an extra quart to do an 8' bed, but I did it with just the gallon, two coats, but I didnt do the tailgate. That stuff is much better than Duplicolor. Spend the extra, its well worth it!
Karl, try the following link to F150 Online. There is a huge forum on bedliners. I've been checking it for a while and the general consensus is to use the Herculiner if you're going to do it yourself. Others like the spray variety, but at $300-400 the Herculiner looks even better.
Like M. Fords----where'd you get Herculiner for $80.00. I've seen it for $100 everywhere I've looked.
I used a link from www.importhookup.com to get to www.carparts.com and searched for 'bed liner' They sell the 1 gal kit for 99 then you get a 25% off until the 19th (Monday). the shipping and tax for 2 kits was $171. About 1/2 the cost of the pro setup. I'm still undecided. If I spend another $150~200 I could get the Rhino liner.
I'll use your link to check out the other site and see what they say.
thanks for the input and links! I just bought 2 kits from 4 wheel parts for $163.29. The sample looks good and I'm going to use it inside the cab as well.
Thanks again.
I used a place in Albuquerque called "Ultimate Liner". They say it's exactly the same as Rhino but a little cheaper. It works great! I even had them spray it on a little thinner than usual. You cannot even tell that I hauled an overhead camper a couple of times. They also have a product called forever black that you wipe on. It covered the catalized primer the paint shop got all over the new liner. I've had it for 3 years and love it. It even kills a lot of noise!

The 1Gal. Herculiner kit WAS on sale for $79.95 at GI Joes in Portland, OR. a few months ago. The individual quarts were also on sale--not sure how much they were. GI Joes is a automotive/sporting goods chain of stores in the NorthWest; possibly elsewhere. Their regular prices are often inflated, but their sales aren't half bad.
I got mine from 4 wheel parts for $75.95 ea 1 gal kit. I called first and told them I wanted a price match, brought in a print out from a web site www.diyauto.com/herucliner_bed_liner_kit.htm that was for $84 then told them carparts.com will match + 10% off and after a little haggle, I got them for $75ea.
