Heads.............interchangable?
If you mean between a 6 and 8 cylinder or an FE and a 302 or a 460 or a I6 
not likely without alot of machine work. LOL

Some are some aren't. 302 and 351W; yep 302 and 390; nope 302 and 351C; kinda. The heads on engines from the same family are interchangeable most of the time, like 289,302 &351W are interchangeable but the cleaveland is a different engine family and are not easily swapped. It can be done w/ some machine work but it aint cheap.

I believe he means from the left hand side of the engine to the right hand side and the answer would be yes they can be swapped from left to right in most cases, but make sure for your application beforehand
