I found a place today that has the F81Z-3254-CB type seal for $21, but I need the 3C3Z-3254-CA seal and it's $40. The two seals look alot alike but for the metal shield. Is it posssible to take the metal shield off my old seal and put it on the new seal?

I'd spend the bucks for the correct one -they are interchangeable, but metal shield is part of the seal, and I figure Ford put it there for a reason. It is the latest design.

Thanks for all the help, I finished the project yesterday, so far so good. As far the seals, on one side I got the seal off and left the metal shield on and just replaced the seal, on the other side I damaged the shield so I had to replace the whole thing. With the metal shield removed from the new seal and comparing them side by side both seals or identical, same number on the seals. So far future reference if you can remove the seal without damaging the metal shield you can save a few bucks and get the older seal.
