intermittent wiper control box

Since I purched my used 83' f250 I would have to skillfully time the wipers to turn them off in the right position. Well I went thru the wiring and found that the I have an intermittent wiper control box on my dash was not hooked up. It has five wires "if im not mistaken" red, green, blue, black and white The thing is I can only find places for the black, white, and blue. hooking these wires up I fixed the problem but where do the others go? Please help.

Thanks,

PJ

Something is strange.
My 83 wiring diagram shows:
Black/light green to ignition switch via a connector.
Black/white to washer pump.
Red to the INTERVAL GOVERNOR.
Black to ground.
Black/pink to INTERVAL GOVERNOR.
Black to INTERVAL GOVERNOR.
Dark brown/orange to wiper motor.

The book is an electrical and vacuum troubleshooting manual I bought in 83 when I bought the truck.
It has thorough wiring diagrams.
The wires are coming off the intermittent wiper control box just as you mentioned.
I don't know why there's a discrepancy. I can just tell you what it says. Sorry.

If someone eliminated the intermittant wiper system by unplugging the "box" and putting a non-intermittant switch in your truck it will never work right. The intermittant system Ford used on these vehicles is a dual funtion switch with a governor plugged into the standard wiper system. The intermittant is activated by turning the switch **** to the left (counterclockwise) the cycle speed is controlled by a resistor in the switch. The low and high is activated by turning the switch **** right (clockwise). Pushing in on the **** activates the washer pump. It is fairly easy to add intermittant wipers by simply replacing the switch and adding the governor. If your wipers won't stop properly, than the park switch in the motor may be bad. The wiper harness plugs into the governor and the other end of the governor harness goes to the switch.

I too replaced my windshield wiper switch with an intermittant switch over the weekend. It doesn't function correctly. Being my truck didn't come standard with this switch, I must assume I need to add the governor as well as the intermittant switch for the switch to work correctly.
Can someone confirm this? Thanks. I do have the Ford truck manuals. They are very helpful and easy to understand.

You need the complete wiper switch and control box that is harnessed together with a connector on the end that connects to the original connector your non-interval wiper switch was attached to. The complete units are for sale on eBay all the time.

This is 80-86 Ford Truck Country and the wipers are driven by one motor. The controller is simply an electronic device to determine when power is fed to the single motor and when it is not. Simple device really...

I got the governor for the intermitten wiper switch today from my local Ford dealer. The governor is a black box with two connectors. One connector is red. The red connector goes on the switch. The other connector is black. The black connector goes on the harness under the dash. The only tricky thing is to find a spot under the dash to mount the black box. If you've done it right the intermitten is to the left and normal operation is to the right as you turn the switch. Push on the switch and your squirter should make your windshield wet. Hope this helps.
