Tell your son to stop looking at things so close, lol I'll bet your right, but I have a feeling the metal in the surrounding area is just as bad off.
haha...thats exactly what i was thinking when i clicked this thread....time to get a roof cut out of a newer car from a junk yard and slap a sunroof in there.....i almost did that with mine because mine seemed to be like a mountain landscape with all the ups and downs, but i just ended up beatin, bondo-in, and blocking it half ways straight again......
take the headliner out, and see what happens....just make sure to cross your fingers, and hope that the neighbor drilled a really tiny hole in the top of your roof...haha
Sounds like a good excuse to tell the wife your gonna HAVE TO do a chop top because of the dammage. You would HAVE TO piece the top sections together anyway...right?
If that doesnt work out think ROADSTER !!!
just one small hurdle of many to come, take it with a grin.
good luck, Ed

Fuzzy....where's the hole? Is the headliner wet? Check under the floor mat. I've seen wet floors that were traced down to a pin hole in the seam sealer over the door. The water will run down inside the A-post like it's coming out of a garden hose. That foam under the carpet is not a pad, it's a sponge. Some joints have expandable foam in them that will stop the water even if there is a pinhole. Maybe you got lucky!
As long as the area is isolated you can cut, and weld a patch panel in place. The big item is do not over heat the area as the roof panel will warp. As deep as I have been in mine, just last weekend (after paint and interior) we cut out the cowl vent and welded the vent closed. Now I have a very pretty primer gray area on the cowl. BUT IT DON'T LEAK ANYMORE
I took down the headliner.Absolutly no rust.Maybe the neighbor did drill a hole. The paint is dead on the roof.I guess the hole was their when it was painted and the paint filled it in.Guess the roof is pretty thin there.
