Cool transmission problems ouch!!!!

Hey Guys, Well this is a first for me to do something like this, never been on this site until one of the guys I work with said to check it out. I have a 2003 F250 power stroke 57,000 miles and the torc converter is out. any of you out there in Ford land have any problems yet? The transmission shop is going to rebuild it and put different parts and no (plastic stuff or brass bushings) drill out the ports, new clutch etc. He said it will be better than what was in it before. I called the dealer and asked to help with the repairs--- no way, I called Ford and they said--- SORRY. You wouldn't think something like that would happen with only 57,000 miles on it. I don't beat on it we haven't pulled anything but a stock trailer ( 4 horse) not even a load on it to strain the tranny. That must be why they ony warrant the transmission to 36,000 miles. Does Ford know that the transmissions aren't good? Heck, I bought the truck used ,1 owner, clean, nice, 42,000 miles had it for 7 months, $ 30,000. and now a $ 2,300 transmission bill. OUCH!!!!

is this a torqueshift, or 4r100 ?

2300 is a helluvalot for a 4r100, and what i would expect for a 5r110w

I see your from Michigan. Call Sexton & Sons in Hudson 517-448-7333 and talk to Stan, he can set you up with a new trans for a price you'll be happy with.

My transmission went south on my old 01 F250 with 35k on it. I only pull a 750lb jetski. The new one they put the in line filter. I was told Ford was having problems will small casting pieces killing the transmission and that is why they now put the inline filters in.

Husband says it's a 4r100. to rebuild it will cost 1800 and the rest is labor. the guys doing it is from my home town and the boys were weaned on trans fluid. they will warrant their work for 12000 miles after the rebuild. so we'll see. they said they have rebuilt 10 of these transmissions already and 1 has come back to them.

My transmission shop charges 1600 for the rebuild and he puts in heavy duty clutches, heavy duty converter and a trans-go shift kit. For 2300 they either don't know what they are doing or padding their pockets. Which is, of course, what the ford dealership does.

OMFG

1800 ?

you could buy every single part of the trans for less than that, seperately...

fwiw, the average rebuild has a parts cost of under 400 bux....

the kit for a 4r100 is only 190.then add whatever hard parts MIGHT be damaged, and your under 700 for sure...

your gettin taken to the cleaners.

sorry.

my aod that I built cost me 400, thats with hard parts upgrade, a shift kit, and a converter.

took me about 4 actual hours of easy labor, taking my time ( i had a core trans) and it works sooooooo much better than the one i took out. i did the same stuff a trans shop would have, and saved over 800 from the CHEAPEST quote i got.

Ok, you did it your self so there was no labour charges to re and re it. And if it blows up again because you put a valve in backwards or a check-ball in the wrong spot what kind of warranty do you have?... None.

Sorry not that 4r100.

I had to replace mine @ 56,000. When I pulled the old one out it said "Quality Remanufactured By Ford". I bought the thing with about 30K on the clock.

Make sure the shop puts in a triple disk converter. Have the modify the valve body or put in sonnax/tricumulator to keep you clutches longer.
