Nuts, bolts, & distributor
I just picked up a 78 400 motor that was rebuilt 40k miles ago. I got it to put in my 79 4x4. I Heard it run at the bone yard so I know its good. My problem is it sat for a few years so some of the bolts and the distributor are frozen in the block. I know i can get most of the bolts out by heating them. How can I loosen the distributor so I can turn it or get it out without breaking it off? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Nick, try soaking the distributor base where it enters the block with penetrating oil for a few days. Then if you take off the vacuum canister, you can slip an oil filter wrench around the perimeter and jerk it loose. If it won’t budge then flip the wrench over and try the other direction. Don’t beat on it with a hammer.

great idea on the oil filter wrench barry never thought of that i have removed many frozen dist in my 20 years of turning wrenchs but never thought of that thanks FORDS RULE I use spray carb cleaner on the base and just keep trying to get it to turn eventually it will come loose .
