I like remembering back to when they sold gas by the gallon, about 45 cents an imperial gal when I started driving. That was about 10 cents a litre and now it is 90 cents a litre.
As a kid I watched the gas pumped into the overhead glass container that had gallons marked on the side of it. Then watched as it gravity flowed back into dads car. If we were good we would get a coke. All cold drinks were called cokes. People would always tell the service station man to please "Drain the hose please". If you self served instead of full service.. you would go inside and tell them how much gas you got. Oh... first car was 1951 Olds 88 .. made into a pickup and hauled hay with it for a penny a bale. Gas was like twenty five cents.
When I was in high school, not long after I got my license. I remember paying $.89/gal... This was early 90's... Went right back up a week after it hit that. But it still sticks in my head.
My grandpa always grumbles when he has to fill up his car. He told me about when he was a kid, he could completely fill his car for $2... So when I'm with him, I tell him to give me $2 and I'll fill up his tank for him. Kinda takes him back... If only a little.
Just to stir monsta pot! ,how is this related to v-10 engines ????
My second question in my original post.

This thread isn't really about age or anything...it is just that those prices are only a couple years back!! .65 a gallon (although it was that price in my lifetime) doesn't even register in my brain. Gas prices DOUBLING in two years, however unfortunant, does.

Beast12,
SAVED BY THE BELL?? I didn't think guys actually watched that show, let alone "rushed home to watch it". Hmmmmm...I'm beginning to wonder.

remember the 'coke' machines that had a lid that opened, and all the bottles were in cold running water and you had to fish the top of the bottle through a maze until you got it to the jaws that unlocked after you put your dime in ? Those 10 oz glass cokes were the best ! Ice cold, two GIANT guzzles and they were gone, and you weren't thirsty anymore. Awww, those were the days.
