My brother has a 99 PSD that he pulls a goose neck trailer with. Recently a problem surfaced that I can't make any sense out of . When he has the trailer hooked up and puts on the brakes (has electric brakes on the trailer) like when coming to a stop at a stop sign, the engine shuts off. It starts right back up and is good until the next stop. As long as the trailer wiring is not connected there is no problem. Any ideas?
camshaft position sensor??? maybe? Just a thought. It might seem it is tied to the trailer and not really be. Cps failure can be really sporatic. When mine went the truck might die at a red light today and run fine for the next week. Then it might do it twice in the same day. Just a thought. Good luck
I have the same problem with my '95 occasionally. It never dies without the trailer plugged in but sometimes with the trailer plugged in it will die coming to a stop. It does it with my travel trailer and my buddy's 20' flatbed. I haven't figured that one out yet. Doesn't seem as bad if the controller is turned down. Seems to do it more if it is turn up higher on the gain. Weird thing is I have had it do it after not towing a trailer for several months but have been dragging the flatbed around with the racecars on it a lot lately and haven't had it do it.
Really? What makes a burned out brake light shut the engine off?
obs trucks are funky when lights burn out. my cruise doesnt work when i have burned out bulbs. lots of people have this problem. could be similar for your problem.
I have heard that the 3rd brake light will make your cruise not work.
I have no clue what it is, but the IDM relay is under the hood, right next to the trailer lights relay. a LONG SHOT here..... maybe there is a bad ground on the trialer, it is back feeding through the running lights, and screwing with the IDM relay, causing the truck to shut off.
I have had bad grounds on a trailer cause my TC to unlock every time I hit my blinker....
I have the weird things that happen when a rear bulb burns out like the torque converter not locking up when the turn signal is used and the cruise disengaging when I use the turn signal but have never had the engine quit or even miss. Seems like it would be pretty hard not to have a good ground on a 30' goose-neck that is used alot but who knows....
