Hey guys. Finally ditched the 4180 4bbl in favor of an Edelbrock 1406...as the secondaries were rusted shut on the holley and it was just a complete piece of intestinal fortitude, anyhow the carb dropped right on except for the throttle linkage.

So the question is, there is this little vacuum actuator on a triangular plate that is bolted into the manifold...it's in the way so as to cause the throttle linkage not to move.

Does anyone know what in the name of god this contraption is and how to make it go away? For now I want to just get it to run, unless anyone's got an Edelbrock intake real cheap then there's no way that manifold is coming out.

 

I believe that it is a open/close valve for the exhaust crossover in the manifold. I would install a 1" 4 hole spacer myself.

 

yup that's what we did. All set now except for one problem....I had it running Thursday night and oil blew out the dipstick. I had the breather port blocked off on the oil filler neck...bad move...then I opened the cap... milky white "loveliness" It has gone from temperature extremes 15 degrees to room temperature and then back and forth a couple of times, so I am assuming that this is just condensation being blown up wards caused by the increased crankcase pressure.

 

Yeah, after driving it for awhile and getting the oil good and hot, most of the condensation should evaporate. Also, make sure that the PCV valve is working properly.

 

She drove home today!!!! she's a smooth running/driving tank...only problem is that it won't shift...don't know how to adjust the kickdown linkage and it's idling about 1500. I drove home on back roads in 2nd gear. It's a C6. I should probably do a search and start a new thread to get some more responses so may just do that.

Oh yeah...I said in a previous post that the old carb flooded and the manifold was a gas swimming pool....then it dried up...I found it!!! It was in the crankcase, about 12 qts. of oil and gas. Basically it made -30w0 oil....he he...changed oil and filter....runs great. I'm much happier with the edelbrock. Idles a lot smoother.

you may want to change it again soon, i would keep an eye on it because tyour fuel pump diaphram could be leaking gas into the crankcase as well
