I've just converted my 2BBL stock carb. and stock intake manifold for an Edelbrock 4bbl carb.1406 and intake manifold 2181?? Problem is it's idling WAY too fast because I don't know where to install my return spring?? I've found the hole where the spring is suppose to attach on the throttle linkage but where does the other end attach itself?? I was thinking of attaching it to the ignition coil retaining bolt?? Are there any other places to attach the spring?? The ignition coil on my stock intake manifold was bolted down on the left side of the engine and now it's bolted down on the right side?? Nothing is the same anymore!?!? Does anyone have pictures or a diagram that could help me out? I thought Edelbrock would at least make it an easy swap over?? I guess not!!!
You can hook the spring to just about anything you want. If you hit up an auto parts store, they usually sell a throttle return spring bracket. you bolt it to the intake using one of the manifold bolts or other holes in the manifold.
Hi there. Thanks for the reply. What i ended up doing is welding a plate to the edelbrock bracket to extend it forward a bit to make it work properly. i can't believe edelbrock would sell something that doesn't fit properly, well at least on a ford pickup. thanks again!
I used the throttle cable bracket like the stock carb did granted there were a few things that ticked me off about the swap, the kickdown lever on the carb was a seperate purchase, the stock kickdown link for the tranny was to short and had to be modified and the replacement throttle cable bracket had to be modified. Every application is different and they can't cover them all but I'da settled for just finding a place to mount a return spring
