Has anyone here lowered their truck by adapting the suspension from a Galaxie or LTD? I'm thinking about trying to get the front of the frame from a 66-ish Galaxie then recording the measurements and drilling out the rivets on the frame for the crossmember and I-beams and then drilling new holes for the Galaxie suspension and crossmember and grafting them in. No one can say that the suspension wont be able to hold up to a trucks weight since the Galaxie or LTD weighs more than my truck. Just curious what challenges came up and how they were overcome
yes, at least twice, and about the best I could come up with is a whole bunch of Stockmans posts in which his signature included a mention of a galaxie, and a post that inquired pretty much the same thing as mine regarding a pic of one of the trucks in the picture gallery that mentioned using a fairmont front end I believe. In any case I didn't find that a satisfying answer by checking old posts so I figured with more time maybe someone else would have seen it at a car show or something that would help before I buy anything too soon.
If your truck has twin i-beams there are drop axles for lowering the truck. They are all over the truck mags. Fat Man (not me) make a big assortment of that kind of stuff.

In the cool still quite of night you can hear chevies rusting away.
yeah, I was looking at the AIM drop beams, but there is still only so much adjustment on the caster? (maybe camber, not sure of the correct term) available to compensate for suspension raising or lowering as you corner or just raise it to look stock etc, short of bending the I-beam. Plus the uniqueness of having a galaxie frontend, I remember when I was reading the HOT ROD articles on project montego the guy that selected their suspension parts got a 71-72ish LTD to pull 1.2G's on a skid pad, so there is a lot of potential in the suspension that I feel the I-beam setup could be lacking. Just trying to find out if it's worth taking advantge of, and the suspension will probably provide a smoother ride with airbags and sway bars than a I-Beam would.
I know you don't want to hear about a chevy but a ex friend of mine did the camaro sub frame thing to his 50 chev PU and it handles great.I am doing the AIM beams and rear shackel/hangers on my 67 F250, I'm going to adjust the camber by the heighth of the truck. If you really want the galaxie suspension do a frame graft, you still will have the factory geometry and it will be alot easier.
yeah, it would be easier, but I'm not wild on using a torch on the frame (as in cutting off the front end), no second chances, with just drilling out the old rivets and drilling new mounting holes if it wont work I have the assurance I can at least go back to the I-beams plus I wont have to take off and remount sheetmetal other than the inner fenders which I want to remake in fiberglass to save weight since my current inner fenders are in pretty good shape I'll use them as the mold.
