Hey guys,
I just read the post about FM reception and it reminded me that I want replace my factory antenna with a shorter stubby one, as the factory one hits the bottom of my camper. I can't figure out how to get to the mounting inside the fender. The space is really tight and I can't reach it. I am sure I am missing something...Can any of you give me some hints or ideas?
Thanks!
Dak

Hey Dakonthemountain, A 1978 - 1979 radio attenea is what your looking for. Pop the chrome cover at the base of the attenea and remove the 4 screws. Pop off the attenea at the back of radio. Then the attenea should pull through. Where the attenea goes through the fire wall, push thru the rubber grommet/attenea thru by pushing in the grommet and pull the attenea cable from outside the truck. Then you can buy different attenea which can screw into the 1978 - 1979 attenea base.
Hi 1975Ford,
Thanks for the info! I didn't realize the chrome base would pop off.. I will try it this weekend and let ya know how it went!
Thanks again!

word of advice. replace it with a aftermarket low interference antenna. i replaced mine last year with a 15'' flexable rubber antenna and it has been great. they will run you about 14.00. just go to any kragen store. they will be on the shelf. the hardest part of this job is running the new cable to the radio.
Dakonthemountain, before you pull the attenea cable thru the firewall and out the cab, tie a wire to the end of the attenea. Then when you pull the new attenea cable thru, you can tie the wire to it end and it should help in pulling thru the new attenea. Have a great day, later

When I replaced my '73s antenna, I got the mast, base and cable from a '80-'86 F150. It was cheap and looks identical to the '79 style. Plus it has a screw on mast, so most any aftermarket mast will work.
Mine keeps hitting stuff but that's cuz it's one of them tall cb antennaes that they were putting in'em back then. Wish it still had the original radio and everything to go with it. I connected that antennae to my Cobra and it doesn't work for PPPFFFTTTTTT so my uncle gave me a Lil Will magnetic one for my roof which hits more junk than my original one. I'd like to get one that looks better but I just can't turn loose of something that's original that wasn't everyday.. you know what I mean? This truck was special ordered for a furniture company in New Mexico so I'm sure they used the CB for their delivery drivers back then.. you know.. before cell phones were even invented...
Not a lot of help from me on the how too but ya know how it goes.. women can't ever keep their mouths shut... *shrug*
