7.3 Oil Pan Question
I Have A 7.3 Ltr Psd In A 2001 Excursion 4x4
How Do You Replace A Rotted Oil Pan In The Truck?
Do You Have Top Remove The Eng?
Or Just Lift Eng And Drop Tranny?
Any And All Help Would Be Great!!!!

Due to the frame crossmember, Ford service manual says the engine has to be removed. It goes further to say that the engine must be turned over to apply the sealant on the new pan because of oil that continues to run down the interior of the block will get on the pan sealing surface and will not allow it to seal properly.
With that said, I have read where some have sucessfully dropped the trans, jacked the engine and replaced it still in the truck but it sounds risky to me. A lot of trouble to do all that work and find it still leaking a week later just to have to do it again.
