Hi Everyone, First I want to say that the people on this site are the best anywhere. I haven't had any problems with my truck in quite a while, but when I did the responses and help were awsome. I have a friend who has an '01 F350 which came with an am/fm 6cd changer. My question is does anyone know if this will fit in the dash of my 97 F-150. Just looking at it all appears to be ok, but I thought I'd better ask the experts before I went any further.
i myself would say no. i do believe the harnesses changed. you would have to compair the two harnesses. there would be no harm in pulling them out and trying to install the new ones. give it a try
You will have to convert the harnesses from the two black and gray plugs to the newer single harness. You can get both male and female adapters to do this.
You will also have to cut the inside top of the radio opening in the dash. Your original radio kind of stairsteps to a smaller section on the back. Just knock the plastic out of the way with a dremel or something.
I used to work for the Ford Radio department. I performed this mod many times when a customer would purchase a dual media or 6 disk indash.
I can get you the Metra harness numbers for you tonight.
