The search is not working right now and I didn't see this discussed in the last couple of month's postings so I'll give it a go.
Can I take my 1968 F250 with mildly built 390 to a Mass Air EEC VI? IF so what year and truck would I look to get one out of?
Are there fuel injected throttle bodies in standard 4 barrel size that I can mount on my Edelbrock performer and that will work with an EEC VI box?
What kind of distributor do I need to run?
Sorry this questions are so basic, but I've been looking in to fuel injecting this truck for a while and only recently realized that all modern Ford trucks are Mass Air injected. It seems like it would have to be a lot cheaper to use something like TwEECer than pay a lot of money for an aftermarket EFI setup like TEC3r or Mass-Flo. Why is it that almost all the aftermarket fuel injection systems are speed density?
The FE series never had EFI from the factory, so you will have to modify an intake to accept the injectors. I only know of two or three vehicles that came with throttle body injection and mass-air, and all those systems are too small to run a v8. I'm not saying it can't be done, but you'll be below the level of a well-tuned mulitport speed density system.
I do not know what dizzy the fe's used, but if there is any TFI dizzy which can be dropped in there, or even modify your dizzy to use the guts from a TFI dizzy. having the injector bungs put into a intake is not that expensive. I would say I am around 2k into putting EFI on my 400, and that is including the tweecer to tune it.
I have a victor ready to be modified for multi-port - I just figured throttle body would be an easier first step. I have a MSD distributor in there, but the Mas-Flo kit comes with a Mallory - Is that what I need? Can I do fuel only with an EEC VI?
I don't think it will work as a stand alone fuel controller. I do know that you can modify a Megasquirt controller to use a mass air sensor, though. I think the info for that can be found in the Yahoo discussion group for Megasquirt.
the dizzy fires the ignition as well as tells the ECM what injectors to fire. There might be a few hacks for other dizzys to work, but researching that will be fun.
