I am posting this question for the third time as I have never got an actual answer to it. Disregarding all personal opinions, will a T-18 transmission bolt up to my 390 in my 76 4x4 f-150 directly replacing my worn C-6. I have always wanted this truck to be a manual and now that the C-6 is on its last leg I feel that this would be a good time to try. So please inform me on which tranny would be a comparatively easy replacement.
After talking to a few local tranny shops, I have finally answered the question at hand. The one subject that I did not clear up with them is what changes can be expected as far as my driveshaft length and transfer case issues. Any help here would be greatly appreciated as I have bothered the shop guys enough already.
what transfer-case do you have? If your trans extension housing is short, the 4speed with a bell housing is the same length! Thus no driveshaft changes are needed (short is 5 3/4in vs.
8 1/2)
IF YOUR NOT LIVING ON THE EDGE, YOUR TAKING UP TOO MUCH SPACE
I have some numbers off my transfer case. they are as follows from top to bottom on the case. Tag1=14. Tag2=11-74(production date). Casting1=C-11865. Casting2=PTZ or PT2. I have been told in the tranny/transfer case board that this could be a dana 21, NP205, or NP203. If someone could identify it and inform me of how it would work with a T-18 or any other possible transfer cae options, it would be greatly appreciated.
