STARTING PROBLEM
I just installed a brand new starter on my 78 f150 4x4. For the first few days it sounded great. Now it starts rough and right after it starts it shuts off and i cant keep it running even when i accelerate. the whole car starts to shake and vibrate real bad and it runs very rough when i give it gas. I dont know if its the fuel filter or just tuned wrong. I thought that it might be that the flywheel is chipped. i took off the starter and some of the tips of the gear were chipped and worn and its only 1 week old. The fly wheel also has the same deal. I also pulled out some small metal slivers from where the starter is installed. Any help at all would be great thankyou.

Was it running rough before you replaced the starter? My starter went out once, and the ignition module went bad the same exact moment. How that happend I don't know. When my starter went, the drive gear shattered. I was pulling peices of metal out. The fly wheel teeth were rounded over a little. I put on a new starter and it sounded rough to begin with, but it got a lot better after it broke in. Try checking the obvious. Fuel filter, plugs, wires, ect.. But It could also be the ignition module is shot. Now I am just taking a guess at it, but thats what happened to me. I installed a friends ignition module and it fired up. Hope this can help. Not sure it will, but who knows.

are you talking about a cold start in the morning?? if so, I would check choke operation. if you have electric choke, make sure there is voltage to the choke lead.. if its a thermal/manual , throw it in the fridge, then submerge it in cold water too see if it opens . It should move about 1/2" -3/4" from hot to cold
