Back up sensors haywire

Any one here have trouble with the back up sensors not working right.Mine seem to act up when its colder out. Like -10 or colder.Either dont work at all or ding constantly and then quit after 10 seconds.I keep them cleaned off so thats not the problem. They looked at me like i was nuts the first time i brought to the service dept attention cause of course they couldnt find anything wrong. I even made a special trip and showed them the next time it happened so now the manager believes me.Wondering if anybody can give me some info I can take to them. After all I got the faulty cam phaser info off of here and had to tell the mechanic what was wrong that time .

The only thing I have noticed about mine is that the back up sensor beeps constantly when my tail gate is down, when the truck is in reverse and nothing is behind me. I figured the sensor's spectrum must be tall (for lack of a better term) and the tail gate is interfering with the sensor's line of sight. Put the tail gate back up and all is normal.

I just had mine go haywire 2 times and found out both times what the problem was. Dont know where you live but it just snowed up here and after driving the sensors got covered by road salt so i just cleaned them off. The other time it happened after i wash my truck, the Temp. dropped below freezing and they iced over. Fix for both was just to clean them off.

Man I just wish everything was that easy!

When driving around in snowy or wet conditions in cold weather, the sensors have problems when snow gets packed up behind the bumper or when water freezes around them. This can happen on either side of the bumper. I just run a hose through the wheel well to wash the crud out. That tends to work, until it freezes up again. In my opinion, it's not the greatest design. The wheel well should be covered, so that crud doesn't get kicked back to the bumper.

REDPUB, sorry to hear you are having the issue with the sensors. I have had my truck for a year now and have not had any issues with them (or anything else). Here near Seattle it does not get that cold though (just wet), may be part of the issue. Good luck with getting them fixed. -Glenn

Yea, I have the same problem when it's really cold. I've noticed that it doesn't seem to matter if the truck is clean or dirty. I've often had it happen after I've washed my truck and left it sit overnight the 40 degree garage.

I've also wondered if the exhaust 'cloud' you seen when it's cold out isn't setting it off at times.
