What year did the Ranger go from TTB to torsion bar IFS? What year did the 4.0 become SOHC? What year did the auto tranny get 5 speeds? I'm starting to look at used Rangers, just wanted to know what I'd be in for depending on the year.

 

1998 for the front suspension

2001 the 4.0L SOHC (I think)

1997 the 5-Speed Auto was optional

 

Correct on all points.

Just to clarify, '01 was the first year for the 4.0L SOHC in the Ranger. The Explorer got an optional SOHC starting back in '97.
