An acronym for Serial Port OUT, basically a small square connector with two wires leading to the distributor, ignition box, or TFI module which in a round about way leads back to the CPU. Consider it on the same level of blocking off the vacuum advance in a distributor.

Whatever it is, I set my timing at 13 degreese and noticed a slight power improvement and milage increase (about .5 mpg better averaged) compared to when it was set at 10 degreese.

When you take the spout connector out, all you're doing is taking the computer advancement out of the equation. It allows you to set the base timing and the computer will advance it when the spout is in.
