The specs that ford390gashog gave are for the 3V V10s. Your V10 has the 310/425 rating.

I test drove both gas and both diesels motors, before I bought my used v-10. All the motors do a fine job. I bought the truck cause I needed a truck, but the v-10 makes it fun to drive, the instant power and torque, just give the truck a different feel, than the other motors do, sort of like an overgrown sports car, or an old muscle car from the sixtys. Not super fast, but you can feel the power anytime you punch it.

I have an 03 5.4 regular cab 4X4. I have yet to feel that I have a lack of power. Never have I lusted for more, and I have the old 2V motor. I just do not understand how my truck is considered to be weak. It is easily faster than the 351 it replaced, and makes more hp than the 460 did. I just don't get it.

Not power hungry?

92F150I6, I'm with you. It seems as if the power numbers go up every year, and we're sold on the idea that what was considered a powerful truck last year, is good for nothing this year. Look at the Hemi ads. They market those trucks as if they were Corvettes. I like power, too, but I've always thought of my '96 GMC with a 304 V8 making 220HP as a powerful truck. Now I'm getting a 330 CID (5.4L) with 300HP, and to read the posts, it's as if I bought a Mustang and opted for the 4-cylinder engine! Whatever works for you, I guess.

I own a 2006 F250 SD with a V10 engine and 4.10 diff, so I can tow a 9500 pound trailer. The 5.4L V8 would have been too small. Read the spec's and get what you need for the job you need the truck to do. I cringe at the gas pump. I get 11-12 mpg on average when not towing.

I would say that if you plan to tow more than 5,000 lbs on a regular basis, the V10 or PSD is a must have in a Superduty. I base this on the 4,000+ miles of towing I did last year with my old 2003 F150 w/ 5.4L pulling a 5,000 lb TT, mostly in hills and mountains. It did a good job, but could have used better gearing, which the SD provides. The new 3V 5.4L in the SD has more horsepower, but the SD weighs about 2,000 lbs more, so its a wash.

I am not knocking v8 owners. I just don't understand if your towning or wanna much more fun ride why not get a the v-10? Also a v-10 should last longer cause its under less stress towing and pulling the weight of a loaded down truck. I mean it only cost $500 more for a v-10, thats about $8.25 per month on a 60 month loan. If properly geared it will tow the same as a diesel will. And it gets about 1 mpg less in combined city/highway driving.

Whoever said it was like a 4 cyl mustang to compared to a 8 cyl one, an 8 cyl mustang costs a lot more than $500 more than a 4 cyl model does. I better comparison would be a early 90s ZR1 corvette to a stock vette, and the ZR1 option was only $500 more, yet most people still bought the stock vette.

The reason I give my buddy a hard time is because he makes a lot of money and can easily afford a brand new 30k-40k pickup, (I had to buy used) but yet he is too cheap to spend an extra $500 for much better performance. I will never understand why most F250 gas buyers choose the v-8 over the v-10 the ends just dont justify the means in my opinion. gas milage is just too close to matter.

Once I drove a v-10 I was hooked.

OF COURSE THIS IS TOTALLY WRONG OR FORD WOULD BE SELLING MORE V-10S THAN V-8S. I will just never understand why.

Whatever Works For You is my motto. I'm fortunate enough to have a car and a motorcycle to satisfy my need for speed, so I don't need my truck to be a tire-smoking monster. I use mine mostly for hauling firewood, and getting into my hunting camp, plus the occasional "help a friend move a piano" type of request that all truck owners are so familiar with so I don't need all that towing capacity. If I'm honest with myself, I'd say the 250 is much more truck than I need, and a 150 would have been the sensible choice, but I want a truck that's built like a truck. I can't really justify it, but I like it

(1) The F250 w/5.4 has a straight axle and the F150 does not - one up for you.
(2) Lighter engine for those muddy trails and still enough beef to drag a trailer full of 4wheelers - another one up for ya.
