Question Sound system?

hey guys i was wondering if i should put a sound system of two 10'' subs or 2 12'' subs under the back seat of my 2000 4-door explorer, im trying to stay in a $500 budget, i have the stock cd player in there right now, and i dont want to rip it out. any advice on what i should do? or should i just wait and save?

Wait and save. If you only have $500 to spend on the subs/box/amp then you are likely to be looking at lower quality gear. If you only have the stock CD player then you might not even have any pre-outs to connect an amplifier to.

If you are dead set on keeping the stock CD player then you will need to get an LC6 (one of the options available) to give you some pre-outs to connect an amp to. See here http://www.mobileaudiocontrol.com/product.asp?Product_Id=31215&d_Id=17612&l1=&l2= and I think those things already cost $200 so that only then leaves $300 for 2 x subs, 1 x amp and 1 x box.

You could save a bit of money by just getting 1 sub, ask yourself if you really need 2........ I used to have a single 10" and it was plenty loud enough.

Save your money now, you don't want to go spend the $500 and end up with something that sounds crappy, and then have to spend more to make it sound half decent.

$500 will get u n e thing u might need, if you keep the factory cd player/radio. go 2 a local shop and buy a line out converter, which is about $17.00 buy a good amp nothing to high$$$$ unless u want 2 blast out the whole block u live on. for example, i just put in a 10" JLaudio w1 sub($70), box for sub $90(custom built pro-box) the amp is a lightning audio 150.2 watts($79), and i installed it my self. if u dont know to or dont want to install it your self, then let them do it a the shop u go to. what ever price they give u will at first be high so just deal with the price and i am sure they will come down some, they wanted $149 for my box with no sub i told them no way and he said how about $90, pretty big price drop in my opinion, so just offer what u feel is fair and they will take it. sorry for the long windedness! goog luck

ok well, im going to stick with what ppl said up above. In an explorer with that much airspace i would go with 2 10s. Just my opinion and I would NEVER buy an amp from wal-mart. It is low quality and in my opinion crap. Like I said my "opinion." If you appreciate your music you will want something better than a sony explod amp. You can get some lower priced amps and subs off of ebay or crutchfiled. I also but alot off of onlinecarstereo.com.

I would wait until you can get a new headunit and get some decent equipment. I just love getting in ppls cars that have crappy walmart equipment that hits loud and hard but sounds like crap. It just makes me laugh because they dont know the difference. I guess that was a rant. Sorry.
