I'm installing subs in my new '03 F250 Crew cab. I want some other opinion on the subs that I sub install. I think I'm going to build the box myself, I went to a local car audio shop and they wanted like $150 + tax for the box. I think it would be fun to show off a system that I put in my self. Now the subs, I'm not looking for wake the entire neighborhood rattle my teeth bass just want some lower sound that is solid and can sound good.
I have mainly been looking at alpine, JBL and MTX subs please recomend others. I have been looking at 8" and 10" models mainly JBL 8W0-8 or 10w0-8.
Do you think I should install 2 8" subs , 2 8" dual voice coil subs or 2 10" subs. I'm leaning towards the 10s, mainly JBL 10W0-8s wired in parallel for 4 ohms then use a Rockford Fosgate 300s, 351S or 400s to power them. I'm restriced by the space behind the seat in the crew cab as this is where I would like to install them. my max volume is around 0.8 cubic feet some where in there.
If any one has any any sub or amp recomendations let me know, I will look into all sugestions.
BTW: I'm using an Alpine CDA-7863 head unit, what are good 5x7s or 6x8s that I can power from the head unit. I would like to avoid, if possible, installing another amp to drive the door speakers.
I would go for a pair of Elemental Designs 10k's. They would demolish those 10W0's (though 10W0's are not all that bad) in both sound quality, and sound pressure level. They are priced about the same, too ($125 each). For power, go with something like the JBL 600.1, Avionixx 400.2, or even the RF amp you listed. Basically, any amp (from a reputable company) that can do 500-600 watts at 1, 2, or 4 ohms (depending on which vc config. you go with).
Alpine's 10" Type R's are another good choice for a box that small. They, too, are similarly priced.
Good speakers that sound good off HU power include Infinity Reference, almost all Pioneers, and Alpine Type S. All coaxial, of course.
I have two Image Dynamics IDQ10V.2 subs in the back of my crew cab running off 300 watts. It does not wake the neighbors but it sure sounds good inside. Build your own box I did and it only took about 2-3 hours. Good luck!
i would go with the 10w08 in a pair. with go bit of power. in that small of a box the will need more power. if all you want is a little bottem end. then i would go with one 10w04ohm ported. it will hit lower the two and will need less power. just not as loud. as it will cost you less. hope this will help. ps. the rocford 201s will work good on the single sub.
i have a pair of 12W3's, and i dont know if i've been spoiled with them or what, but I listened to a pair of w0's once, 15's even, and i didn't think they even came close in sound quality. The amplifier wasn't all that bad, but they just didnt' compare in my mind. just my suggestion, but if you can afford w3's, or better even, i would reccomend
exactly, and it doesnt' pay to buy subwoofers off of eBay either, even if they are brand new, in package, you dont have warranty on them. IF that thought crossed your mind, scratch it ...
amplifiers, **** man, i bought my JL amp offa eBay and its never given me a lick of trouble. good amps are dependable
my suggestion would also be the Elemental Design e10ks. they would spank the JL W series and most likely the W3 series. they require very little air space (which u need) and would pound till no end. they are more of an SQ based woofer but can get loud.
as for an amp selection, i would say the JBL BP series, MTX, US Acoustic, Planet Audio...
as for speakers, i have pioneers and they sound pretty nice being powered off an amp. id also suggest the infinity reference, Alpine type Rs, entry level Diamond audio or CDT classics.
if u give an estimate on how much u wanna spend i could help more.
