Looking good! Are those the Ford shield tail light lenses? Are they frenched in? The taller roll pan needed to be broken up and I like the way you did that.

The backup lights look serious. If they are bright enough, you could add a toggle switch to the circuit and get people to back off your bumper with them.

It's hard to tell from the photo (put more in your gallery - close ups?), but it looks like the tail lights are frenched separately and the backup lights share a recess with the license plate - yes? I think if you go to smaller backup lights, it wouldn't work as well. The tall backup lights are sized nicely with the tail light height.

Let it grow on ya. It looks good. I think using that area for lights is a really good plan, too. The roll pan is really tall, after lifting the bed. It might look out of proportion if it was still smooth.

Overall, the proportions look great. It's really coming together well.

I want to see what you do with the gate. The fins on the bed walls are crazy, man! Finish the gate and I think you'll like the pan a lot better. It will bring the whole back end together.

You da MAN!!!

Here's a silly question, maybe, is the truck in bare metal, no primer or any top coating? I have noticed a lot of magazine articles with modified trucks that look like bare metal. The trucks are always outside. If they are bare metal aren't you guys afraid of flash rust? Even in sunny dry southern CA there has to be enough moisture to cause flash rust.

There have been a lot of posts here on the best ways to prep metal for painting and the one "rule" everyone harps on is to get it into epoxy primer ASAP. A lot of people go into a panic if they don't metal prep and epoxy prime bare metal two minutes after it's been stripped. I really don't worry about it that much, just as long as I can keep it dry and not wait too long.

Nice work Keith!

Can you give me some info about the 3rd brake light? I would like to do something similar and I've been looking at the Hagan ones that already have the metal flange attached so all you have to do is cut an oversized hole and weld them in. The problem is that they are pretty expensive.

I can't decide if I want the light above my rear window or if I want it on the top edge of the tailgate that I'm planning to build.

Thanks - Brad

I like as is. Good scale to the shields as RJ points out. The roll looks taller since the shields are mounted further inboard I suppose due to frame location. I could live with this and suspect you will too. Muy fineola Keith !!!

I think I may have moved them outboard a hair for balance but the look is right on and I'm trying to picture a tailgate that will measure up to the rest of the truck. Any thoughts on that?

I'm thinking the tail gate has got to have a shape to the top edge. Something that goes with the "wings" of the bed rails and the "wave" of the running boards. Smooth faced.

Keith,
Amazing as usual. I agree with Randy and wouldn't make any changes until you get a look at it with a tailgate in place.

I can't wait to see what you come up with for a tailgate!

Bobby
