My 79 F-350 460, Auto. come to find out only has a two row radiator, I was wondering what it came stock with? I am going to replace it soon, should I spend the bucks on a four row or would three be sufficiant. I will be doing some towing next summer, also has anyone dealt with radiator.com? they are about half the price of the local shop.
Welcome to FTE!
A three row will work well as long as everything else is OK. A 4 row will not cool double the cooling over a two row. Make sure you have a good OEM style fan shroud and a standard OEM type thermostatic fan clutch. Some of the HD thermostatic fan clutches are real noisy since they always seem to stay partly engaged.
I doubt you'll need anything more than a 3 core.
There is barely enough room to R & R the fan set up as it is with a 2 core rad
nevermind going to a 4 core.
I have a 429 with the original 2 core rad and It never overheats.
Thanks for the reply Dennis, maybe the guage is inacurate, but that is what I was wanting to know if the 2 core was stock, I think your right, 3 core should do the job as far as pulling a travel trailer.
fifty miles north of Cut bank Montana, Del Bonita U.S.- Canada Border. Mil1ion is strait north of me.
well then you can take his advise, i've made the mistake a couple of times thinking the guy I was talking to lived up north and found out they were in Texas where it gets a tad warmer
It doesnt seem to make any difference Dennis at idle or highway 3/4 to hot side of guage.the same situation with the engine I just pulled out, When Ford down here put the rebuilt in they suggested a 3 or 4 row replacement. I havent got my candy thermometer out yet, snow and been 10-20 below zero here
well the stock gauge means nothing. they really can't tell you much. if its at 3/4 and just stays there then you should be fine. but i would install some aftermarket gauges with water temp and oil pressure to give you a good idea of whats going on.
