Was looking through old posts just now and saw this, and the answer to your question is Yes, it will work...you can take a 73-96 fleetside bed, and put whichever body style bedside are correct for the truck, and it will work. So you could have a 96 bed, and put 73-79 bedsides on it and it would work.

When you compare a 80"s or 90"s bed to a 70:s bed, the tailgate pillers are slightly different shape, you may have to change these to fit the 70's tailgate, otherwise the outer bed skins just weld on. Goodluck!
