Has been quite some time since I have looked, but was curious if anyone has started making bedsides for 80-86 stepside beds. I am not talking about the fiberglass fenders. I have repaired my sides several times now, but top rails starting to rot badly.
I had a older stepside pickup at one time, and looking at it I thought it would not be too bad to just make new ones. The hardest part would have been re-creating the round rolled edge on the top, but you might find a sheemetal place in your area that could do it.
If you stare at it for awhile, you realize if you drill the spot welds and remove the stake pockets, and take the fenders off, you basically have a large flat piece of sheetmetal that could easily be bent in a sheetmetal brake. Since yours is a late model, I am assuming the top of your bed has a 90 bend and then a rolled edge?
