Question Explorer springs

I have decided to swap in some explorer front coils and rear springs on My 1989 Bronco II,When I call the wrecking yard I asked them did they have springs for a 91-94 four doof explorer. After they looked them up they asked what spring rating did I want my quetion ? will all springs work off a 91-94 explorer 4 door on to my Bronco for the small lift I am looking for or is there a special rating I need on the springs?

Doesn't matter.

I did the same thing on my BII recently. Looks a lot better and handles better too. Make sure you get all new leaf bolts, ubolts. Having access to a cutting torch would help too, the u-bolts only take seconds that way. Wouldn't hurt to spray everything with WD40 every day for a week before you do it too.

I believe there is a difference in capacity between the 2-dr and 4-dr rear springs, as well as several VIN codes (4?). I believe also like the BII, you have both 3- and 4-leaf packs as well. I'm considering this swap, although, I think I am opting for at least a drivetrain / suspension upgrade to include a Ford 8.8 rear axle, a Dana 30 solid front axle, (at least) 4" lift coils up front, a shackle reverse mount / leaf spring swap in the rear to -hopefully- get 4-6" of lift overall. Also going to incorporate 4.56 gears as well as lockers front and rear so the 35X12.50's I will eventually be running won't bog me down too much.... By the time I'm done, it will probably be a -mostly- trail rig only

If I remember right there was different widths on the explorere springs but they all used the same end size so they should all swap in. I've ordered some killer high quality springs from JCWhitney of all places for my full size rigs so when I looked into this swap I checked them out. They only want $185 for a set of brand new 1250lb explorer leafs and $160 for the 1050lb BII leafs. They come with everything new including the ends and like I said I was really supprised with the quality. I'm tempted to just get the BII springs for that price and see where she sits then.

The only thing about that is they will likely eventually sag, just like the stockers. The used Ex leafs and coils have already drooped as much as they are going to, and everything will cost less than $100. I don't see why you wouldn't want to go the cheaper way. I could see if they were better or were going to give more lift, but I would doubt it for both.

...unless you just have money burning a hole...take the extra $100 you'd save and use it for something else, ie, build a roof rack, bull bar, tow hooks/straps, bumper, etc, etc.

I paid something like $17 per coil and $27 per leaf.Would have been $7 and $17 if I had been willing to do it myself, but I know how those bolts can be and it is winter, didn't feel like freezing.

4 new leaf eye bolts were $13, 4 u-bolts made at the spring shop were $40, the rubber isolators for the bottom of the coils were $5.

Got mine for $17 per coil, $27 for the leafs, $40 for 4 new ubolts, $13 for new leaf bolts, $5 for coil spring isolators(rubber things at bottom of the coil springs).

$80 for wheel alignment and 1 camber bushing(only needed it on one side for some reason).

The coils would have been $7 each and leafs $17 each if I had removed them myself. But too cold and I needed a torch or grinder for mine, so didn't want the hassle.

i got both rear leaf springs from an explorer for about 50 bucks. They pulled them off and i hauled them off. They worked great and gave much more stability in the *** end. Goodluck

Too much salt to just pull them off up here, LOL. You're looking at a nightmare half the time even then you'll usually need the torch and a lot of hammer time getting the bolts out. Did you notice much lift with yours?

spring swap

I finished installing the explorer front coils and rear leafs this weekend on my 89 Bronco,I used pb blaster let it soak in for a day had to beat on some of the bolts but they all came loose. If you think you are going to get some big lift you are not I gained a modest inch but my other springs were in decent shape.I went for a run in some sand I liked the feel of the new springs, less spring wrap felt stiff but not to much overall I think it was worth the time and $70 for the coils and rear leafs.

The two door explorer had a 3" wide mono spring and the 4 door explorer has the 2 1/2" stack spring set up. Ranger springs are the same size to.
