My Advance Adaptors book says that the T18 (ford ver) was 6.32 first gear used in 1965-75 2wd & 4wd. The T19 was 5.11 syncro first gear, and the NP435 6.69 first gear in Ford, Gm, and Dodge styles. The T18 is one stout tran. If i rember right when i rebilut the one in my jeep (ford 2wd ver) converted to 4x4 mainshaft, The bare case was like 70#.
AA is a a little off...the T-18 was in Ford use well after that, in Ford 4x4s especially. And there are quite a few of the NP-435 trannies with the higher (4:sumthing to 1) 1st gear ratio..but Ford did not use those as far as I know. As for the T-19...I have yet to run across one in any of the many 70-79 Ford trucks I have torn apart. In 78/79, the distribution of T-18s to NP-435s seems to run about 50/50, with no apparent reason why any truck has one or the other.
bmc69, thanks for the trans info on the shifter retainer. I was wondering what trans was in my old '77 F150 2wd. The shifter retainers on both my '79 CJ7 Jeep and F150 unscrew (T-18). I put an NP 435 in my '81 CJ5 Jeep and that retainer is held by two pins. All three transmissions are bullet-proof and can take a beating. When you have the transfer case in low and the trans in first you can just about climb trees. These 4 speeds are the best.
Thanks for that info. I'll know where to keep a lookout then...I just pulled a NP-435 out of a '78 2wd F-150..but most of the trucks I take apart are 4x4s. According to my books, the 'P' code T-19 should be around in the F-series trucks from way back, at least to '73...but they sure seem to be scarce around here for some reason.
I know here in central washington state I am having a hard time to find a bell housing to fit my trans and bolt up to a 400. I ask the wercking yard for a 460 too and they say that the 460 didnt come out with a 4 speed in a truck during that time. either way seems nobody where I live has one I get the same answer they are getting hard to come by
Does anybody know of any applications that use the PTO takeoff in the side of the transmission? I was told there was one, just wondering if there is anything i can use it for.

Running a hydrauilc pump is the most common use I've encountered..usually for a dump bed. I have a couple PTO boxes laying on the shelf that I pulled off small dump trucks with T-18s or NP-435s.
so with a hydraulic pump i cold run a hydraoulic winch right? how do you engage the PTO on the transmission? Are there any places where i can get one of those pumps?
I'm basically doing CPR on an older thread, but whatever... Does anyone know the gear ratios in a T18? I've searched on here for a few hours with no luck and now my eyes hurt. Thanks, Mike
Reading your post with the fine print makes my eyes hurt. Just use the default font size please.
There are many different ratios in the T-18 depending on application.
More common:
Ford, T18 (diesel) 4.02 2.41 1.41 1.00
Ford, T18 (gas) 5.11 3.03 1.79 1.00
Other ratios are available.
Put the tranny in gear and turn the input shaft 10 times and count the output revolutions.
