I would cancel in a minute if I could find anything that has e-mail service their equal. I send a lot of pictures in e-mail and can find nothing else that will automaticly re-size the pictures and retain the picture quality nearly as well as aol. BTW: Just got a notice that AOL is going to increase my monthly bill. Didn't ask if I wanted to cancel or pay the extra cost, just told me they were going to do it. If any one can sugest another isp that has an e-mail system that works as flawlessly as aol, please let me know. Thanks
Down here in S. FLA, AOL used bellsouth lines to provide their own hi-speed. I never had a problem until I woke up one morning and couldn't get online. The bill was paid automatically with CC#. I called them and they gave me the run-around, saying they didn't know what happenned and blamed bellsouth for cutting me off. So I called bellsouth and they blamed AOL, saying they had nothing to do with it. So finally I called to cancel, talked with some lady in India, and after 1hr15min, they finally cancelled me.
Now, they cut my service on the third day after the pay period, so I asked them to prorate me instead of charging me for another month for a service they weren't going to be able to hook up for another 2 weeks.....a service they cut themselves. They obviously offered a bunch of free stuff instead. After all that, I finally just gave up...then the Indian girl had the nerve to ask me to make sure I ship their modem back. I told her eff aol and your modem. I ain't returning nothing, that the modem was going in the trash before aol got it back....hehehe....also called and reported my credit card lost, just to make sure they no longer had a valid cc# to charge me for anymore crap. AOL......never ever again. Not even for a million free minutes. And on top of that, after uninstalling all the AOL software, I still found a gazillion traces of their software all over my computer and the registry. So I manually deleted them one by one and cleaned the registry one by one. That took a while. Comcast then brought me a new modem. I tried to install it and my ethernet drivers were all screwed up somehow. I downloaded new drivers and still couldn't figure out a way how to get my ethernet adapter working again. To this day, I still don't know what happenned but I'm convinced uninstalling AOL had plenty to do with it. So, I backed up and reformatted. No I know there is nothing AOL in my computer and that's how I intend on keeping it. I would never recommend them to anyone.
Just like I will never recommend Tires Plus to anyone because of a bad experience, but that's another thread for another day. And don't even get me started with JiffyLube. Hehehe.
I tinker with my computer a lot so I learn as I go. Kinda like moving to a new city and getting lost a lot but getting to know the area real well in the process. In the 3 yrs. I've had my computer, I've never really had to call tech support for anything. I've always managed to figure it out "somehow". So I've never had to call AOL for anything, not tech support, not to disucuss a bill.....nothing. My cc gets deducted every month and I was happy for almost two years....up until this problem. But they just didn't handle it very well.
I'm actually glad it happenned because comcast is soooooo much faster on a slow day than AOL ever was on a great day. And for the same price as AOL, comcast can give me hi speed internet and basic cable. So if my directv goes out during a nasty storm or something (hurricane), I can switch over and watch cable. Not really a necessity but nice to have nonetheless..
Be thankful that you were only using the free disk. Trying to get them to stop charging your credit card after having them for a while and then canceling is an even bigger nightmare.
Back in 1994 you need a credit card even when you used the free 10 hours. I cancelled when the 10 hours was up and they still charged my credit card for 3 months after cancelling. I called the credit card company and they got them to put a stop to it. I would never use AOL ever again. I have no idea how AOL's Customer service is now but it sounds about the same.
I never had aol.
I have verizon dsl and have no complaints with them. If you have a problem and call tech support, you are getting somebody in the states. A tech will talk you thru any problem either with verizon itself or a software problem with your computer. If they cant fix it , they will get a tech that can.
Recently i upgraded to there anti virus and spy ware and so far nothing has got by it. It also upgrades dayly.
Years ago one of AOL's "upgrades" made AOL your default browser.
I was really "disgruntled" about it and called to cancel. Man, did they ever give me the runaround.
I finally told the guy on the other end of the line "Cancel it NOW, TODAY, RIGHT THIS MOMENT! I will not pay another cent to AOL, PERIOD"
