I have a '72 F100. I was thinking of swapping out the 302 for a 351. The way I drive this motor would very seldom spin past about 3500 - 4000 rpm so what I want is lots of low to mid range torque. My 302 has some good parts on it:
-new Edelbrock 1406 carb
-low milage cam with spec 204º/214º .465" lift.
-stock head were rebuilt about 2 years ago
-Pertonix ignition
I'm thinking I could build up a 351 short block and put the above parts on from the 302. What do you guys think? Would it be worth the trouble and money? I understand that the 302 has a different firing order than the 351...would my cam still work...is it just a case of putting the plugs wires on different plugs?
the above items would work. but i would look into a different cam possibly. call compcams and tell them your plans. that way you get the most out of this project. the heads will require the head bolts enlarged to 1/2" you will also need a new intake but otherwise sounds good to me
