My buddy has a 2000 7.3 and he had a check engine light illuminate with a huge power loss. The truck would barely pull a hill empty. Their is not excessive smoke but I can smell raw diesel when the power plant is running. It also sounds as if the right bank of the power plant is dieseling. No code popped which makes me believe a injector went out. Would a bad injector pop a code? What are your other thoughts on the problem? Thanks

 

Are any of the right bank injectors firing? If not I would suspect a bad injector wiring harness or the Injector Driver Module.

 

Sounds like what happened to me a couple months back. It was the Under Vave Cover harness that shorted out. But there should be a code it the check engine light is on.

 

I agree, there should be a code. Get it scanned with something better than those generic scanners at Autozone. Take it to Ford if you have to and pay the diagnostic fee.
