Let me ask yall this, can I put a Borg Warner Tcase of unknown number from a F150 1988 longbed 4x4, into a 1992 and later model F150 of same type features???
ps. the 1988 f150 had the M5R2 transmission in it.
so basically my question is will this 1988 tcase bolt to ANY M5R2 trans?

Well, I guess I'm digging this thread out of the boneyard......
I was monkeying around on my truck, and looked at the rear of the transfer case. There's a hole that looks like it was made for manual engagement of the transfer case from the rear; it's got directional arrows, and and markings of 'hi, lo', and some others.
The hole in the middle is open, and is somewhat greasy. In all honesty, I'm just a basic DIY'er; can anyone tell me how that works(if it is manual engagement, and if so, does it need a key of some sort, or ?), or what it is, and should it have a plug in it, or ?
Man, you picked an old thread! So, what T-Case do you have? 1356? You have electric shift now? The shifter you are speaking of could be for a manual shift, but if you have an electric shift, it will not work. There is a shift cam that goes through the hole for a manual shift. There were other options as well, Some 4404 had an option for PTO as well.

it's a 1356 manual engaged. From what I've read both the manually engaged, as well as the electric both have a similar case. I kinda gathered the manual case though, does have a hole there, but for what?
Is there some sort of shift shaft that that extends out when in different gears, or ?
They should swap I had a 94 trans bolted to an 86? 1356 its a 91 f150 that came originally with a 1345 the front output is different and it is bigger and heavier than the 1356 it takes a different linkage than the 1345
Btw I said had because it ate a shift fork after 150 miles that being said they're the best transfer cases I've ever had I've only once even heard of someone else doing 60 in 4 low and they blew the transmission t case and engine
