first let me say this is a great club,i am sure it will help me out alot. i am restoring a 1977 highboy and since i am new to ford trucks i need some help.the truck has dana 44 and dana 60 differentials with 410 gears and i have the option of hooking up either a C6 or a 4- speed tranny with the NP205 transfercase.i have two 400 blocks and was wondering if this motor can supply good horsepower, with great torque.i also have a set of headers and a eldelbrock sp2 intake that i can use.i thought about the 460 swap but the 460 is so heavy.any thoughts would be much appreciated, thank for your help.curt
curt. go ahead and do the swap if ya have the money.it would be well worth it.i have done this with my F250 and the change in the over all performance and the fuel mileage is going to pay for itself in no time.the weight is so close on these two motors.you wont even notice a difference at all.but if ya have your heart set on the 400 it will do a fine job.if by chance you do the 460 swap use L&L products. they have the very best stuff for all you will need to do the swap including the best headers money can buy.good luck.
Stay away from the SP2P manifold if you can. It's a real lo-po piece and if you plan to build the 400 to make any power and torque you won't be happy with it. i have a 77 4x4 with a 400, np 435, np 205, 9", and dana 44 with 3.50 gears, 33" tires....i have had the sp2p intake and the present Performer intake on it...the performer is much better...i have heard that the sp2p is a collector's item now, though...
